For Runners, by Runners

Located in Portland, Maine & Virtually

Inside Steady State's gym.
Steady State is a cash-based Performance Physical Therapy practice in Portland, ME, focused on providing the best healthcare experience for runners and active individuals.

We don’t accept health insurance, allowing us to offer personalized, one-on-one care in 60-minute sessions—focusing on what’s best for each individual’s unique needs.

In addition to manual therapy and exercise progression, we emphasize evidence-based strategies for recovery, including education on training principles, sleep, fueling, stress management, and injury prevention. Our holistic approach ensures that clients not only recover from pain but also build lasting, sustainable health and performance.

At Steady State, we aim to help clients reach 100% recovery and beyond, guiding them through injury prevention and preparing them for a lifetime of activity—including a spontaneous run, a hike, or a weekend race.

Our mission is to help active individuals create lasting, positive health changes with sustainable solutions that unlock new levels of performance and quality of life, enabling them to do more with their bodies than they ever thought possible.

Who We're Looking For:

  • A runner who gets it

Competitive runners or those who've completed 1 marathon/ultra or several half-marathons. This ensures you can relate to and support the runners we help.

  • Someone who truly cares about runners

Our clients tell us all the time how much they appreciate the personal attention and care we provide. "The level of detail and attention is like NO other PT experience out there." - Client

  • Strong orthopedic skills

While most injuries we see are running-related, our clients face a wide range of challenges. Orthopedic expertise is the foundation for specializing in running injuries.

  • A growth mindset

We're a performance-based clinic that values growth in every aspect of life. We support our team's personal and professional goals through mentorship and collaboration.

  • Great communication

Education is at the heart of what we do. Clear communication with clients and teammates is key to achieving great outcomes.

  • A team player

We believe in shared success. If you strive for growth and collaboration, this is the place for you.

Who This Role Might NOT Be For:

  • Minimal running experience

We're looking for PTs who are passionate about running. You'll spend your days talking about running - it's important you love it as much as we do.

  • Someone just looking to leave in-network PT

We're looking for PTs excited about our mission & vision.

  • Someone expecting 6-7 patients per day to be a light workload

We dive deep with our clients to address their biggest challenges. It's rewarding, but it requires focus and dedication.

We're also seeking 1 PT with experience with (or a strong interest in learning) pelvic health. We provide lots of mentorship (weekly 1-hour 1-1s) after the initial 3 month intensive training, for both pelvic and non-pelvic PTs.
