Frequently asked questions
Do I Need a Doctor's Referral?
Nope! The states of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont are all direct access states - meaning you can go to a physical therapist without needing a referral.
Do You Take My Insurance?
At Steady State, we believe that providing patients with one-on-one care is best for their healing and rehab.
Typically, insurance dictates therapy treatment, with most in-network therapy clinics needing to see 3-4 patients per hour to be profitable. This means most of your time is spent performing the same exercises each visit alone or with a therapy tech. This also means needing to come to therapy multiple times per week in order to make progress towards the goals of your insurance company.
Being out-of-network allows us to work on YOUR goals & spend all of our time 1-on-1 with you so that you walk away from each session with 2-3 times the guidance you receive at most in-network PT clinics. It allows us to treat you how we feel is best without insurance dictating our every move.
With more dedicated time, in-depth treatment, and therapy geared towards patient ownership of their care, clients are able to reach goals in less time, with fewer visits.
We have never had anyone regret the investment they make in us and in themselves.
You may qualify for out-of-network PT benefits - which we can help you learn more about.

Do You Take FSA or HSA Funds?

I'm Not a Runner, Can You Still Help Me?
Absolutely! We would love to be a part of your recovery journey. We initially started as the place for runners because we are runners ourselves. But we are also skiers, hikers, CrossFitters, climbers, & outdoor enthusiasts. We enjoy helping anyone who is motivated get back to their favorite activities.
We treat people of all genders, ages, and sizes. If you have an orthopedic or sports complaint - we are here and ready to help you find freedom and relief.
What Can I Expect on the First Visit?
On your first visit, you and your Doctor of Physical Therapy will have a detailed conversation about your injury, pain, or limitation, your training history, goals, and any questions you have. From there, we go through a detailed movement assessment to figure out the root cause(s) of the issue. We will give you a clear, concrete answer to what is going on and how we are going to resolve this issue together. We then put together a holistic approach and program to help get you back to running & the activities you enjoy pain free!
What Should I Wear for My Session?
Please wear athletic clothing and shoes that allow you to move freely without any limitations. You will be moving so dress appropriately!
How Long is Each Session?
The initial evaluation is 75-90 minutes. All follow-up visits are 60 minutes long. You will receive one-on-one care the entire time with your Doctor of Physical Therapy for each and every session.
How Many Visits Will I Need?
This will be dependent on the severity of the injury(s) and limitations found within your evaluation by your Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). Typically our patients are seen anywhere from 10-15 visits to get rid of the pain, address the root cause, and implement a long term solution to prevent the issue from coming back again in the future.
How Often Will I Come in for Follow Up Visits?
We understand that your time is valuable and trust that you will be compliant with your program outside of our clinic. This allows us to be less frequent with your visits and ultimately get you back to your goals quicker.
Our patients usually are seen 1x per week for the initial 3-5 visits to make sure you are progressing appropriately and to get you out of pain as soon as possible. From there, once the pain is minimal and we are able to progress with more functional movement, we spread out the remaining visits every 2-3 weeks so that you can work the exercise program we provide you and TRULY achieve your goals and get the results you deserve.
What Happens After I "Graduate" and Finish My Plan of Care for Physical Therapy?
Many of our patients and clients continue to work with us proactively on a monthly basis after they finish their plan of care. This maintenance program allows us to make sure our clients don’t let injuries or pains get in the way of their health and wellness goals.
I'm Not Sure if I Need Formal Physical Therapy - Should I Still Reach Out?
Yes - we help people at all stages of the rehab & prehab process.
If you're recovering from an injury - our emphasis is the rehab to get you back to 100+%.
If you're dealing with minor aches or do not have any injuries - our emphasis is optimizing your training, strength, mobility, and recovery to work on improving your performance and preventing future injuries & setbacks.
We start with a free 20-minute discovery call so that we can learn more about you & your goals - and help determine if we think we'd be a good fit. Contact us here to schedule a call.
I'd Like to Work with You But I Don't Live Close By - Do I Have Any Options?
Yes!
We see numerous people via telehealth sessions. Sometimes people come in person for the first session and then do a hybrid of in-person & virtual visits. Other times people exclusively do telehealth sessions & it works great.
Our philosophy is based around educating you on how to take care of yourself - which can typically be done with the same success remotely.
Do You Treat Pelvic Floor Conditions?
Yes! But not all of our physical therapists treat pelvic health conditions. For more info please see the Pelvic Health PT section of our website here.
Do You Provide Dry Needling?
Yes! Dry needling is an advanced technique using thin, monofilament needles. Needles are inserted into muscle tissue to help decrease myofascial pain, address trigger points, and help with recovery post activity.
All of our Doctors of Physical Therapy have advanced dry needling certifications.
There is no extra cost for dry needling and it can be included in your session based on your plan of care.
